Denver Sluice Competition 2018
On 29th January 2018, Tamsyn and Liz from the Environment Agency visited Class 4 to talk about Denver Sluice. This talk was organised to support Class 4's geography topic this term, Rivers.
The children learnt about the important role Denver Sluice plays in managing water throughout Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. They also learnt how to prepare an emergency box to be used in the event of a flood.
A competition was also set for the children to think of a name for the new Denver Sluice gates. The standard of entries was very high, although after much deliberation Paige was named as the winner. She had chosen the following names for the three gates: Pirates Gate, Mucky Porter Gate and Farmers Boy Gate. The judges were impressed by how the names are based on old Fenland stories and the relevance to the local area.
There were also two runners up: Sky and Kieran.
All three children received a goody bag and it will be lovely to see the gates named after Paige's excellent ideas.
