Mother's Day Lunch with the Ladies from the Church
On Friday 29th March, as part of our work on Bishop Stephen’s Lent Challenge, we invited Judith and the ladies from the local church, St Mary’s Denver, into school for lunch. The ladies come into school each year for an afternoon to make Mother’s Day posies with the children and we thought that this year it would be lovely to invite them in to share lunch with the School Council.
The School Council took ownership of the visit creating and sending out invites. They waited on the ladies, acting as waiters/waitresses. The fish and chip lunch was provided by Jill and Sue, our school cooks.
The ladies from the church thoroughly enjoyed their visit and were so pleased that the children would think of them. The children benefitted from hearing stories from the ladies and learning about their lives. This helped to strengthen our links with the local church and community.
The ladies then stayed in school all afternoon and made Mother’s Day posies with each class. Each child took home a posy for their mum at the end of the day. The ladies were exhausted when they went home!
